Marketing in One Hour a Day (or Less)

By Snap Agency May 18, 2017

As a business owner, how much marketing should you do? You’ll always get the best results when you hire an SEO agency to handle marketing for your site. Does that mean you let the pros handle 100% of your internet marketing?

Not if you want the absolute best, top-of-the-line results. After all, nobody knows your niche better than you do. Your industry expertise is an invaluable resource.

Your schedule is probably already pretty hectic. Fortunately, if you’re working with an SEO agency, you don’t have to dedicate a huge amount of time to your own internet marketing efforts.

If you can devote just one hour a day to internet marketing, you’ll help increase your site’s traffic, leads, and sales. Here’s what to do:

Review Your Content Backlog

Most business owners are going to hire professional internet marketers to create content. There are several advantages to this. Professionals can create content which appeals directly to your most likely customers. Plus, that content can be fully integrated to your site’s other optimization efforts.

Spend about 20 minutes or so looking through your content backlog. This is especially important if you have a large backlog of older articles.

The idea is to find older content which you can update. Maybe an old guide can be updated with new techniques or new information. Also, keep an eye out for topics related to annual events which you can re-use. For more info, check out our guide on How to Repurpose Old Content.

Check Your Social Media Pages

Almost every business will benefit from a social media page on the big three platforms, which are Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter.

Of course, those aren’t the only social media platforms in the world. Some smaller, less-active platforms might actually help your business even more than the “big three” can.

Each social platform has a unique audience. Working with your SEO agency, you’ll identify the social platforms where your audience likes to hang out. A smaller platform with a narrow focus can lead to better leads faster than a more general audience on a larger platform.

Instagram, Snapchat, Google+, Pinterest, and others might be the right platform for you. Check out our guide to Hidden Social Media Gems for more help.

Check Your Posting Frequency

You don’t have to instantly read every article posted on your social media pages. Let your SEO agency concentrate on developing a posting schedule. Every few days, check in on your social media content to make sure everything’s looking good.

Social media posting is split into two parts. Eighty percent of posts shouldn’t be related to your brand. Instead, they’ll be fun and interesting posts about your industry. The other 20% of posts will be where you showcase your product or service.

Here’s where your industry expertise can really help. Check into your non-promotional posts. Are there any industry topics you feel are under-represented? While there’s a data-driven method to finding topics in any industry, nothing beats industry experience.

Send Products Out for Reviews

Backlinks are an important part of optimizing your site. A backlink is when a site links to your content. When a high authority site links to yours, search engines see it as a type of endorsement. This helps improve your overall ranking in the search results.

Developing backlinks is mainly going to be left to the professionals. One way you as a business owner can help is with reviews. A great review is looked on favorably by both search engines and potential customers.

You’ll need to send out some free products for review. As the expert in your product line, you’re the best person to pick which of your products are most likely to garner an excellent review.

Remember, these products are sent out for free. So you likely can’t just give away tons of your most expensive items. You’ll want to find the right balance between your budget and the potential increase in brand exposure from the review.

Just an Hour a Day…

Hiring an SEO Agency gives you time to focus on your business instead of site optimization. But you don’t want to be entirely hands-off. Take a few moments to check in on your site. Is your content reflecting the interests of your customers? Are your social media pages active, and with a minimum of product promotion?

SEO agencies will always welcome the participation of an engaged business owner. Just an hour a day or less can improve your digital marketing strategies for the long haul.
